Govt rejects SSC report, seeks erring officials’ names

The internal inquiry report of the School Service Commission on Sunday’s teachers recruitment examination fiasco was outrightly rejected by Education Minister Bratya Basu on Thursday saying the commission failed to name the officers responsible for the mismanagement.

“We have asked the commission to provide a detail report mentioning the names of the persons responsible for the mismanagement in conducting the examination,” Basu said and added that the SSC has been given three more days to come up with the amended report in which it has to identify the people behind the chaos.

The report, which was submitted by SSC chairman Chittaranjan Mondal, states that “some of the people” entrusted with the task of monitoring the examination were involved in the mismanagement that forced the government to conduct re-examination in five centres.

Mondal, however, declined to comment on the development. On Wednesday, he had blamed sections of external people like those associated with the press and responsible for delivering the question papers to the SSC centres — the SP and DMs — for the mismanagement.

Meanwhile, the district administrations where such fiasco took place also submitted their report stating that SSC had sent inadequate question papers that led to the chaos at some of the examination centres.

Sources said that a section of SSC officials are responsible for the fiasco and in order to shield them, the chairman of the commission did not mention any name in its report.
