Hate speech: Delhi court orders police to file FIR against Raj Thackeray

New Delhi: The Tis Hazari Court in New Delhi on Thursday ordered the Sabzi Mandi Police Station to register an FIR against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray for his alleged hate speech against North Indians.
The ruling came after the court went through an action-taken-report, which was submitted before the court on a complaint for registration of an FIR against Thackeray.
A detailed order and the sections under which the FIR will be registered is awaited.

Earlier, on Saturday the Delhi Police had told a court that it faces several legal hurdles in lodging an FIR against the MNS chief for allegedly branding Bihar natives in Mumbai as infiltrators.
The police had told Metropolitan Magistrate Neeraj Gaur that neither the comments were made in the national capital nor the newspapers which carried them are printed here.
The investigating officer, who filed the action-taken-report, however, had said that the police were ready and willing to abide by the court's direction on the issue.
The speech was made by Thackeray in Mumbai on August 31.
The petitioner PS Sharma had argued that since the speech was made available across the country, an FIR too can be registered in New Delhi.
