Scared after Fiza death, security agency owner abandoned SUV

The vehicle found abandoned in Ambala on Friday night, in which a medical prescription slip bearing Anuradha Bali’s name was found, was being used by Balwinder Singh, owner of a security agency in Dera Bassi. Balwinder, who reportedly came in contact with Fiza Mohammad a few months ago, has conceded that Fiza had given him the silver Scorpio.
He has told the Mohali police that after Fiza’s death, he had become scared and decided to abandon the vehicle.
For this, he took it to Ambala and abandoned it in a remote area. Balwinder also admitted that he removed the registration number plates so that it could not be identified.
For creating an obstruction in the administration of justice and trying to conceal material facts from the investigating agency, Balwinder Singh will now be in the dock. “Appropriate action will be taken against him for concealing these facts from the police,” said a senior police official. Balwinder has also admitted that he deliberately concealed the whereabouts of the vehicle from the police.
Fiza had come in contact with Balwinder to hire private security guards as she was apprehending a threat to her life. The vehicle stands registered in the name of Advocate Dilip Mahajan, a family friend and her lawyer.
Speaking to Newsline, Mahajan said, “It is highly surprising why Fiza would give my vehicle to Balwinder. Moreover, I had met Balwinder twice, once in Sector 20, Panchkula, and the other time at Fiza’s residence. My vehicle had the Punjab and Haryana High Court sticker wherein my name and coordinates are written. Balwinder could have easily contacted me if there was some fault in the vehicle, rather than abandoning it.”

Mahajan further said that the left headlight of the vehicle was broken when he had given it to Fiza. “A day prior to giving the vehicle to Fiza, the front left headlight of the vehicle got smashed,”
Mahajan said. The headlights of the Scorpio were found smashed when it was spotted in Ambala on Friday night.
The Ambala police told Newsline that it was at around 3 am on Friday that some labourers living near Baldev Nagar heard a loud sound. They told the cops that they saw a person getting out of the vehicle and abandoning it. The police took stock of the situation on Friday morning.
A taxi stand owner had also reached the spot since his silver Scorpio was stolen. However, after checking the engine and chassis number, he found that the vehicle does not belong to him.
On the other hand, owner of the vehicle Advocate Dilip Mahajan said that he had sent a complaint to the Chandigarh senior superintendent of police (SSP) at 2:01 pm on July 30 through registered post, a fact confirmed by Chandigarh Police. Mahajan, who claims that his vehicle was demanded by Fiza since her Honda CRV had gone for servicing, was constrained to submit a complaint since she had threatened him of dire consequences on July 27.
Mahajan had stated that Fiza had borrowed his vehicle, a silver Scorpio (PB02-AS3913), on June 22 for a couple of days. He said that he again enquired about the vehicle on July 21. He further stated that when he rang her up on July 27 demanding the vehicle back, Fiza lost her temper and threatened him with dire consequences. She allegedly threatened Mahajan not to complain to any police agency about it. Dilip in his complaint had also requested Chandigarh Police to get his vehicle recovered and had raised the fear that it might be misused by some criminal.
Asked why a case was not registered, Mahajan said that he did not want to spoil his family relations with Fiza but just wanted to pressurise her to return the vehicle. “Dilip Mahajan’s complaint was received at the window of the headquarters on August 5. We will verify the engine chassis number and only then release the vehicle, if the claimant is able to produce documents proving his ownership on the vehicle,” said Inspector Neeraj Sarna of the Sector 3 police station, Chandigarh.
Meanwhile, Salim Alvi, a social worker from Bulandshahar came, to Mohali today to join the investigation. However, since the investigating agency was preoccupied with arrangements keeping in view August 15, Alvi was asked to return tomorrow. “I have an important family function to attend back home. So I have told the police that I will return after Sunday,” Alvi told Newsline.
Alvi had been claiming that Fiza had told him that she was apprehending a threat to her life from Lok Sabha MP Kuldeep Bishnoi. He told Newsline, “Fiza had discussed this apprehension a number of times and had decided to give a representation to the President in this regard. She had also decided to contest elections against Bishnoi and his party workers.”
