New Delhi: The Supreme Court has expressed concerns over environment and safety aspects of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant. The apex court has told the Centre that it will stop the Nuclear plant if the environment and safety measures are not met.
The Nuclear Power Corporation of India has filed an affidavit that even if a Fukushima-like incident happens, Kudankulam is fully equipped to deal with such an unlikely event. The case now been adjourned till Thursday.
There has been a row over the 2,000 MW nuclear power project. Kudankulam villagers have been protesting against the plant fearing possible nuclear radiation leak once the plant begins production.
However, the Centre has claimed that the Kudankulam plant will help solve energy crisis. Expert panels have also declared the plant safe.
