BJP releases 2002 letter in which Manmohan Singh had opposed FDI

New Delhi: The BJP today released a letter reportedly written by Dr Manmohan Singh in 2002 to the Chairman of the foreign trade committee, opposing Foreign Direct Investment in retail.

This comes two weeks after the Manmohan Singh government announced a bunch of reforms including FDI in multi-brand retail, leading to the Trinamool Congress pulling out  of the Congress-led UPA at the Centre.

Dr Singh's government has also been heavily criticised by allies and Opposition alike for allowing FDI in retail.
