A delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party members met the UT Administrator Shivraj Patil and submitted a memorandum demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and a roll back of decisions, including the hike in diesel prices and allowing FDI in retail.
The delegation, led by the president of the city unit of BJP Sanjay Tandon, comprised of other leaders as well. In the memorandum that was addressed to the president through the Punjab Governor and UT Administrator, the BJP has stated that the Prime Minister should accept responsibility for the coal block scam.
The memorandum states that there is rampant corruption in the UPA government. A large number of scams have surfaced. The prices of essential commodities have skyrocketed. Due to the high prices, essential commodities have gone out of reach of the common man. The hike of Rs 5 in the prices of diesel has hit people hard. The BJP leaders demanded that the cap on subsidy on LPG should be removed.
The BJP further said that the decision to allow Foreign Direct Investment in retail is not in favour of small traders. It stated that the Congress government is fighting a losing battle for its existence. The party leaders alleged that it will be completely destructive for the farmers and 5 crore retail dealers of India, whose livelihood depends on retail business and who are struggling for their existence because of the wrong policies of the government.
