YUVA chief Abhishek Banerjee is likely to be given “more responsibility” in the Trinamool Congress following the outfit’s state convention in the last week of August. Abhishek, according to the sources, will become more visible in politics after the convention, which will be attended by chief minister and senior party leaders, including Railway Minister Mukul Roy.
“The stage is being prepared for Abhishek to play a big role in the state politics,” a YUVA functionary said. So far, Abhishek was seen leading YUVA rallies in Kolkata.
After the state convention, he is expected to tour districts to strengthen the outfit, sources said.
A YUVA leader said a booklet containing various issues and subjects is being prepared which will be distributed among the delegates attending the convention. “The book, which will contain several issues ranging from stories of the new government to Mamata Banerjee’s fight to uproot the CPM, will help us produce trained youth functionaries in the districts,” said a YUVA functionary. Rallies and group meetings are being held in districts to make the convention a grand success. “But we will not put up hoardings because we, like our Chief Minister, feel hoarding and billboard create visual pollution,” the leader added.
With the Centre declining West Bengal’s persistent demand for moratorium on interest payment, YUVA members will intensify its anti-Centre campaign. At the convention, which will be attended by at least 10,000 delegates, oath will be taken against to fight “CPM’s slanderous” campaign against the state government.
